The islands and canals around the Maximo, Saint Pete Beach, and Tierra Verde area hold lots of fish. They are a short distance from Maximo Boat ramp right near the Tampa Bay Skyway. Captain Andrew and I decided to shoot out to the nearby mangrove island of Tarpon Key to see if we can pluck some snook out from the trees. After netting bait on the flats, we focused our efforts on the oyster bars that are hidden on high tide. These oyster bars were holding some nice snook. After that bite died down, I gave a few dock lights a try and yanked a nice juvenile gag grouper out.
