Uttarakhand is the Land of Gods and also of Land of Rivers and mountains. Tehri was a small town situated on the confluence of Bhagirathi and Bhilangna Rivers in Uttarakhand. Despite of numerous unsuccessful protests by its residents, this town got submerged in the water to create a large catchment area and this way the town of Old Tehri became The Tehri Lake.The town of Tehri was evacuated to make space for the Tehri dam, and the population has been shifted to the town of New Tehri.

उत्तराखंड देवी-देवताओं की भूमि है और नदियों और पहाड़ों की भूमि भी है। टिहरी उत्तराखंड में भागीरथी और भिलंगना नदियों के संगम पर स्थित एक छोटा शहर था। अपने निवासियों द्वारा कई विरोधों के बावजूद, यह शहर एक बड़े जलग्रहण क्षेत्र को बनाने के लिए पानी में डूब गया और इस तरह से पुरानी टिहरी का शहर, टिहरी झील बन गया। टिहरी शहर को टिहरी बांध के लिए जगह बनाने के लिए खाली कर दिया गया, और आबादी को नई टिहरी शहर में स्थानांतरित कर दिया गया है।
