A 3-way valve in a chilled water Fan Coil Unit (FCU) system plays a crucial role in regulating water flow for temperature control. It has three ports: one inlet and two outlets. The valve controls the flow of chilled water between the FCU coil and a bypass line.

When cooling is required, the valve directs the full flow of chilled water through the FCU coil, allowing heat exchange between the air and water to reduce room temperature. As the cooling demand decreases, the valve starts diverting some or all of the water to the bypass line, reducing the amount of water flowing through the coil.

This regulation helps maintain the desired room temperature while minimizing energy usage by the chiller. The bypass prevents pressure buildup in the system and ensures consistent water flow, contributing to system stability and efficiency.
