It’s June 30th 2024, and 409 of Smash Ultimate’s best competitors have traveled out to Florida’s biggest Fighting Game tournament of the year, CEO.

As the bracket made its way to the final two, we were left with a pair of competitors all too familiar with this iconic ring. In this corner, we had a Top 10 competitor making Grand Finals for his 3rd consecutive year, and on the other was the focal point of this story -- a competitor that through the past decade, has risen from a local threat, to a globally ranked phenomenon, and finally to a major champion.

But to truly understand how our protagonist got here, and why it’s even important in the first place, we need to take you back...way back.
