The turbo on my Focus 1.6 TDCI had broken a year ago. It's a costly and recurrent failure (for many) and I needed a permanent fix. I decided to mess about with it in order to fix the problem, and I have successfully done it!

My solution is simply to remove the impellors, the spindle, block the oil feed, and blank the intake/outtake with washers and a bolt. You basically have no turbo anymore, the car is slow, but you also don't have the headache of having to deal with burning oil, squeeling turbo and the consideration that in a weeks time, you may be stuck on the side of a motorway waiting for the RAC.

The spindle, impellors cannot fail if it is not there! Oil cannot be brunnt if there is no oil in the assembly! Enjoy!
