We all have ego - some of us a little and some of us a lot. Ego affects our lives in different ways. Sometimes it denies us of opportunities, sometimes it separates us from people we love and sometimes it causes our downfall.

In his book, "Ego is the enemy", author Ryan Holiday talks about how ego affects us in 3 stages of life - while we are aspiring to do something (Aspiration), while we succeed in our attempts (Success) and while we are dealing with setbacks (Failures). In each of this stage we possess a different kind of ego. In this book, Ryan talks about how we can deal with our egos in each stage. I personally liked his plus, minus and equal (+, -, =) solution to deal with our ego issues. Watch a small summary of this book in this video.
