On 16 June 1970, ITN covered the Scottish National Party (SNP) campaign in the South Lanarkshire constituency of Hamilton. Winifred Margaret "Winnie" Ewing, whose surprise victory in the 1967 Hamilton by-election saw her become the first SNP candidate elected to parliament since the Second World War, was seeking re-election, while Labour's Alexander Wilson, Conservative candidate Ross Harper, and eccentric independent Scottish Liberal candidate Harry Taylor were seeking to unseat her.
